Frequency Discounts

Frequency Discounts let you automatically adjust the price of a service based on how many times a customer has that service during the same week.

What are Frequency Discounts?

Frequency Discounts let you offer customers a different service price based on how often they use that service during the same week.

They can be a great way to reward frequent customers and encourage them to book more visits. For example, you might charge your regular rate when a customer books one Dog Walk during the week, but offer a lower price per walk when they have three, four, or five walks that week.

Instead of manually adjusting each visit or creating separate services for different frequencies, Scout automatically applies the appropriate price based on the number of qualifying visits the customer has during the week.

Frequency Discounts are set up individually for each service, so you can decide which services offer frequency-based pricing and create the ranges and prices that make sense for your business.

Scout uses a Monday through Sunday week to determine the number of visits. One-time and recurring visits are treated the same way—the discount is based on how many qualifying visits the customer has for that service during the week, not on whether the visits are part of a recurring schedule.

Add a Frequency Discount

  1. Go to Settings, then Services.

  2. Open the primary service and set the regular Price. Scout uses this price when the customer's number of visits does not fall within a discount range.

  3. Check Enable Frequency Discounts.

  4. Click Add Discount.

  5. Enter the smallest and largest number of visits for that range.

  6. Choose Fixed or Percentage, then enter the amount.

  7. Save the discount, then save the service.

Fixed sets the price you charge for that range. For example, an amount of $38 means the service costs $38. It does not take $38 off the regular price.

Percentage takes that percentage off the regular price. For example, if the service is $45 and the discount is 10%, Scout charges $40.50.

You can add more than one range. Put the ranges in order with no gaps between them. If one range ends at 2, the next range starts at 3.

Every range needs a minimum and maximum. For a range such as “2 or more,” choose a maximum that covers a busy week, such as 7.

Example

A Dog Park Trip has a regular price of $45.

You create this Frequency Discount:

  • Minimum: 2

  • Maximum: 7

  • Type: Fixed

  • Amount: $38

The customer's first Dog Park Trip of the week is initially charged at the regular $45 price.

When their second Dog Park Trip is started during the same Monday–Sunday week, they reach the 2–7 range. Scout applies the $38 price and also updates qualifying Dog Park Trip charges from earlier in the week on the customer's current open invoice.

How Scout applies the price

Scout checks the Frequency Discount when a visit is started.

A visit counts when it is:

  • For the same customer and the same service

  • Started or completed

  • Scheduled to start during the current Monday–Sunday week

Scheduled visits that have not been started are not counted. Canceled visits are not counted. For recurring services, each individual visit counts when that visit is started.

When the number of visits falls within a range you've created, Scout applies the corresponding price. When the number of visits does not fall within a Frequency Discount range, Scout uses the regular service price.

Things to know

  • Pet parents see the regular price when they book. The Frequency Discount price is applied when the visit is started.

  • On the tip screen, the visit total is hidden if the appointment includes a service with Frequency Discounts turned on.

  • Frequency Discounts apply only to the main service price. Add-ons and surcharges keep their own prices.

  • If a customer has a custom rate for the service, Scout uses the custom rate instead of the Frequency Discount.

  • Staff pay remains based on the regular service price.

  • Two pets on the same visit count as one visit.

  • Canceling a visit does not automatically change the price of the other visits. Review the invoice if an adjustment is needed.

FAQ

Do visits need to be recurring?

No. One-time and recurring visits both count. Scout looks at the number of started or completed visits for that service during the Monday–Sunday week.

When is the discount applied?

The Frequency Discount is applied when the visit is started. It is not applied while the pet parent is booking, on an estimate, or on a booking request.

What happens if the customer has a custom rate?

Scout uses the customer's custom rate for that service instead. The Frequency Discount is not added on top of the custom rate.

Are add-ons or surcharges discounted?

No. Add-ons and surcharges keep their own prices. Frequency Discounts change the main service price only.
