Service Types

Service Types help you expand your business by organizing services like Walks, Grooming, Training, and Overnight Care into categories, each with its own services, add-ons, and scheduling options—making it easier for clients to book and for you to grow.

Written by Paula Andrea Ivanoff

As your pet care business grows, you may want to offer more than one type of care.

For example, you might currently offer dog walking, with services such as 20-, 30-, and 60-minute walks and optional add-ons. As your business grows, you may decide to add grooming, training, overnight care, or other services.

Each area of your business may have its own services, add-ons, and scheduling needs. Service Types help you organize them separately, making it easier to expand what you offer while keeping the booking experience simple for your clients.

For example:

  • Walks might include 20-, 30-, and 60-minute walks with specific arrival windows.

  • Grooming might include baths, full grooms, and grooming add-ons with different scheduling needs.

  • Training might include private sessions or other training services scheduled at specific times.

By organizing your services this way, you can introduce new offerings and give existing clients more ways to book with your business — helping you grow your services and increase revenue without making your service list harder to manage or navigate.

What are Service Types?

A Service Type is a category that groups related services together.

Instead of presenting a long list of services, pet parents first choose a Service Type and then select the specific service they want to book.

Example:

Service Type: Walk

Services

  • 20-minute Walk

  • 30-minute Walk

  • 60-minute Walk

Each Service Type can include:

  • Primary Services — The main services pet parents book.

  • Add-On Services — Optional services pet parents can add during booking.

Note: A Service Type must have at least one Primary Service assigned before it can be selected during booking.

Create a Service Type

You can create custom Service Types to organize your services in a way that works best for your business.

  1. Go to SettingsServicesService Types.

  2. Click Create Service Type.

  3. Enter a name for the Service Type.

  4. Choose how appointments for this Service Type should be scheduled (this defaults to your business's scheduling preference):

    • Arrival Windows

    • Specific Times

  5. If using Arrival Windows, choose your business's default arrival windows or configure custom arrival windows for this Service Type.

  6. Assign one or more Primary Services.

  7. (Optional) Assign Add-On Services.

  8. Click Save.

Edit a Service Type

You can update custom Service Types at any time.

  1. Open Service Types.

  2. Select the Service Type you want to edit.

  3. Update the name, scheduling settings, arrival windows, or assigned services.

  4. Click Save.

Note: Default Service Types cannot be renamed. Only custom Service Types can be renamed.

Assign Services to a Service Type

There are two ways to assign a Primary Service to a Service Type.

Option 1: From the Service Type

  1. Open SettingsServicesService Types.

  2. Select the Service Type you want to update.

  3. Go to Primary Services.

  4. Click Add Primary Service.

  5. Select the service you want to assign.

  6. Click Save.

Option 2: When creating or editing a Primary Service

  1. Go to SettingsServices.

  2. Create a new Primary Service or edit an existing one.

  3. Select the Service Type the service belongs to.

  4. Click Save.

Important: A Primary Service can only belong to one Service Type at a time. If you assign it to a different Service Type, it will automatically be removed from its previous Service Type.

Assign Add-On Services

  1. Open the Service Type.

  2. Go to Add-On Services.

  3. Click Add Add-On Service.

  4. Select the add-ons you'd like to offer.

  5. Click Save.

Note: Unlike Primary Services, Add-On Services can be assigned to multiple Service Types.

How Pet Parents See Service Types

When booking through the Pet Parent mobile app, pet parents first select a Service Type, then choose the specific service they'd like to book.

If a Service Type uses Arrival Windows, pet parents will also see the arrival window options configured for that Service Type.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can Service Types help me grow my business?

Service Types make it easier to expand into new areas of pet care without combining everything into one long service list.

For example, if you currently offer dog walking, you can add Grooming, Training, or Overnight Care as separate Service Types, each with its own services, add-ons, and scheduling options.

This gives your existing clients more ways to book with your business while keeping the booking experience organized and easy to navigate.
